Simpson, the former NFL star who was acquitted of murdering his ex-wife in a televised trial that gripped the nation, has died of cancer at age 76, according to a statement from his family. Reports circulated in February that Simpson had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and was in hospice care as he underwent chemotherapy. Simpson denied that he was in hospice in a video posted to X, but did not address whether he or not he'd been diagnosed with cancer. When Los Angeles Police officers went to Simpson's home to speak to him about the murders, Simpson did not answer the door but officers noticed blood on the door of his vehicle. Once a revered athlete, Simpson went from a Hall of Fame icon to a murder suspect.

House Republicans removed Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar from one of her committees on Thursday. The party-line vote struck at least a pair of GOP members as a dumb move. The dejected duo called it the "stupidest vote" and panned leadership for making Omar a "martyr." The not-so-private condemnation of Speaker Kevin McCarthy's campaign to remove Omar from the House Foreign Affairs panel happened after Republicans clinched the retaliatory strike on a party-line vote of 218-211. After Buck decreed it the "stupidest" political move, Simpson said the expulsion would probably make the Minnesota Democrat into a "martyr."

Elon Musk posted a picture on Saturday joking that The Simpsons predicted he would buy Twitter. Musk acquired Twitter on October 27 for $44 billion, seven years after the episode aired. Musk, who became Twitter's new owner after closing the acquisition deal on October 27, posted an image from a 2015 Simpson's episode featuring Musk. It seems unsurprising that Musk has drawn attention to an episode that one critic described as "more like a love letter to Musk than a proper Simpsons episode." Much like in The Simpsons' episode, some celebrities and politicians think Musk may have also gone too far with his ambitions for Twitter.
